A Review of the Boiling Curve with Reference to Steel Quenching

This review presents an analysis and discussion about heat transfer phenomena during quenching solid steel from high temperatures. It is shown a description of the boiling curve most used methods to characterize when using liquid quenchants. The present work points out criticizes important aspects that are frequently poorly attended in technical literature determination use and/or respective coefficient for modeling phase transformations metals. Points include: effect initial workpiece temperature on curve, fluid velocity specification correlate with flux, importance coupling between conduction convection determine wall flux. Finally, research opportunities this field suggested improve current knowledge extend accuracy complex workpieces.
